David Copperfield is a novel by Charles Dickens, published in 1850. It is considered one of his most popular and enduring works. The novel follows the life of the titular character, David Copperfield, from his birth to his maturity as a successful novelist.

David Copperfield is born in poverty in England, and his mother dies when he is a child. He is sent to live with his cruel stepfather, Mr. Murdstone, and his sister, Miss Murdstone. When his mother's kind and loving friend, Clara Peggotty, comes to visit, she takes David away to live with her and her family in Yarmouth.

However, David's life is soon turned upside down when his father remarries and he is sent to live with his new stepmother and her children. He is mistreated and unhappy, and eventually runs away to London to become a writer.

In London, David meets a variety of characters, including the eternally optimistic Mr. Micawber, the wealthy and kind Mr. Wickfield, and the beautiful and manipulative Dora Spenlow. Through his relationships with these and other characters, David learns important lessons about love, friendship, and the importance of being true to oneself.

As he grows older, David becomes successful as a novelist and marries the strong-willed Agnes Wickfield. Despite the challenges he faces throughout his life, David ultimately triumphs over adversity and becomes a well-respected and successful member of society.
