Elizabeth is a 1998 British historical drama film directed by Shekhar Kapur and written by Michael Hirst. The film stars Cate Blanchett in the title role of Queen Elizabeth I, with a supporting cast that includes Geoffrey Rush, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Fiennes, and Richard Attenborough.

Why do I feel as though I am betraying my historian blood by acknowledging that Elizabeth is, actually, a damn good movie? Robsart was an obstacle that stood in the way of their marriage plans and apparently she was dealt with in true Tudor fashion. His sickly son Edward VI reigns for a short while before dying so his eldest daughter, Mary, a childless Catholic, has ascended to the throne. Historical Background In the sixteenth century, England was divided along lines of wealth and religion. Neither of them really did a great job holding my attention. When William Cecil asks her to solidify relations with the Spanish, Elizabeth dismisses him from her service, choosing instead to follow her own counsel. If true, Oxford's life at the court would have allowed him to gain tremendous insight into the daily life of royalty that no commoner could possibly have. It holds an approval rating of 83% on the Elizabeth is a rich, suspenseful journey into the heart of British Royal politics, and features a typically outstanding performance from Cate Blanchett.

This is impossible given the communications of the time she didn't receive a fax. The other characters, however, are little more than stereotypes: the noble protector, the wily servant, the arch villain, the usurper, and so forth.

The script is solid It may make a heretic to say this, but the script is really very good.
