I bought a copy for a friend too. Doresey is missing an eye because the guy that killed his father, D. He's the South's beautiful, idiosyncratic world of music, dancing, and a touch of religion. By the way, the movie about Jesco not same as documentary was the brain-child of someone more demonic than Jesco could ever be. I also love the fact that Jesco is who he is.
Move left on a couple of poor slopers to the arete, and top out just left of the arete. Seemingly nothing but rusted out trailers, dilapidated homes on blocks, more cars-on-lawns per square mile than any place on earth, and West Virginians and yes, the homes are on blocks. Uniquely talented and completely insane, weirdly beautiful in that inbred kind of way and wild as a feral coyote. I remember getting ahold of this in my teens. We both couldn't stop watching it.

Yeah, the movie is funny and makes you think, and then you think, Hey, I work hard for a living and am a shmoo, yet these folks who proudly proclaim that they all get crazy checks from the government, are just leaches and criminals playing the system. This is Jesco's biggest break and it's undoubtedly one of the happiest times we've seen in this man's life, considering the up-and-down nature of his emotions in the first documentary. Muscle your way into the powerful undercling and up to the lip. Incipiently, this is how 90% of Jesco White fans first viewed their hero.
This is a strange world and if it has to exist, I want to see all of the movies about it. Steve Allen Rowe used his 12-gauge shotgun to shoot D. Arms in the air celebrating and hollering. I got three mine shafts up this holler. You can look at this movie as a serious work of art or just a cheap redneck exploitation film. On one hand, you could look at this film as being the simple yet complicated story of a talented and troubled misfit who wants to catch his big break. There is just so much wacky stuff on these vids.
The entire thing seems a pretty good argument against huffing gas. What chance did Jesco have? White's family has been notorious in West Virginia for being lawless, societal deviants who engage in dangerous activities that have not only been harmful for them, but have had severe repercussions for the county and the state itself. From over a decade spent trying to hip people to the ways of the last Mountain Dancer, let me tell you from experience that describing Dancing Outlaw is simply impossible. . She completely freaks out rightly so! Cars and Motorcycles peel out all over the place. However, it is through Norma Jean that we learn the truth about Jesco. This film definitely belongs in the library of any cult collector.
He is not in character, even when he is in character. I was obsessed with this for at least 6 months. Made in 1991 for West Virginia public television by the either extremely talented or extremely lucky Jacob Young, Dancing Outlaw manages in its 29-minute running time to be more enjoyable than almost any other film you will ever seen. Nothing prepared me for this. A product of his time and place, but with rebellious ethos that rivals your average confederate flag waving redneck. I've watched both films several times.
He slips between three different personalities: a kind one, a violent one, and a version of Elvis that feels piped in from another world. Jesco's trip to Los Angeles to appear in an episode of the Roseanne Barr show as an Elvis impersonating clog dancer is chronicled. Not as informative and captivating as the first one. Jesco is married to Norma Jean, a woman who is probably twenty-years older than him, but appears to be forty-years his senior. That said, I can break down some of the basics even if the allure does not come across properly in my writing. Not to glamorize an abusive, probably racist I'm guessing, I don't recall that ever coming up hillbilly, but being from the South and having a tumultuous relationship with it myself, I can recognize the special qualities in very simple people. About 90 percent of it is false and the other 2 percent is greatly overstated.
He does it for his fans, and they wave goodbye, some with tears in their eyes, as they see him board the plane for Hollywood. I should probably mention here that that Jesco first went to juvenile hall for stealing lighter fluid to sniff. One can imagine an approach that goes too far the other way and paints everything as noble and tragic rather than freakshow heehaw. The shot is whimsical and projects a nice feeling of seriousness in the documentary's source material, and it shows the confidence and the lax behavior of White himself. You have to see it for yourself. There is a shot of Jesco tap dancing his way across a long foot bridge that looks next to falling apart, and it's beautiful. I have been since 1998.
What a bizarre picture of hidden America these films reveal. Can he find fame and fortune through mountain dancing? It shows footage of his father dancing at mountain arts festival. I follow Jesco on facebook but I haven't seen anything posted in a long time. The cars are just rusted hulks. Two three, maybe four times a week!! On the other hand, one could see this as being an authentic dispelling of stereotypes about the lower class of America.

Full of family get- togethers, a little music, and stories about the good ol' days when he was doubling up on huffing gas and glue. I don't think this was played up too much for the cameras either. I said if you wanna live to see tomorrow, you better start fryin' them eggs a lil' bit better than what you're fryin' em. Yes, it is that fucking good. Jesco White is the last in a line of Mountain Dancers, a relatively obscure form of tap-dancing that is actually interesting to watch. Also of note, is that Jesco met Norma Jean when she picked him up hitchhiking with some friends. One of the best documentaries that I have seen.
