Cosi is a play written by Australian playwright Louis Nowra in the 1970s. The play is set in a psychiatric hospital, where a young director named Lewis is hired to put on a play with a group of patients who are suffering from various mental illnesses. Lewis initially has doubts about his ability to direct the play and about the value of using theatre as therapy, but he eventually comes to see the transformative power of art.

This escalates to the opening night, where Nick confronts Lewis. The humour is entertaining and I found a sympathy more with the people who were unwell, than those living outside of the asylum. There's quite a few lines about the double standards between men and women when it comes to love and infidelity, but it didn't seem like Lewis really came to grips with that. Despite Lewis trying to pull everyone together, the audience and Lewis realise that the patients remain unpredictable. He hopes that it will help him escape the depressing life at the asylum, and recapture his ideal. Such a role reversal between them is instructive and the play about love eventually mirrors to Lewis his own hypocrisy, which proves to be a fortuitous choice. .

It struck me as a bit weird, though. Hence, Lewis discovers reality in a way. Ive always enjoyed stuff to do with old mental hospitals and stuff and I love how this one incorporates so much humour. Baba sees this as a weakness, and since Baba is a strong, brave and confident man he disapproves of his son which leads him to give Amir less affection than he would if the two were more alike. Lewis is now a university graduate who takes on a job of putting on a play — with a colourful cast of patients from a local mental asylum. We have an incredible team of tutors and mentors! This theme alludes specifically to such insecurity. The final idea is that this opening symbolises Lewis entering into this world and shinning a light into their darkness.
