Anwar Ibrahim is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Leader of the Opposition since 2018. He is the president of the People's Justice Party (PKR) and a member of the Parliament of Malaysia representing the Port Dickson constituency. Prior to his current role, Anwar was the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1993 to 1998 and the Minister of Finance from 1991 to 1998.

Anwar was born on August 10, 1947, in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. He received his early education at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Tembak and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Haji Mohd Taib. He went on to study at the National University of Malaysia, where he received a bachelor's degree in economics, and later earned a master's degree in social policy from the University of Malaya.

Anwar's political career began in the 1970s, when he became active in student politics as a member of the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students (PKPIM). He was eventually elected as the President of PKPIM and went on to become the president of the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM). In 1982, Anwar was elected as the member of Parliament for the Permatang Pauh constituency, and he has held various political positions since then.

In 1993, Anwar was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia under Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
